The 2018 Year of the Dog quarter-ounce gold coin from the UK’s Royal Mint forms part of the Royal Mint’s Shengxiao collection, highlighting the 12 animals that make up the Chinese zodiac. Based on the Chinese lunar calendar, each year is named after a different animal. Those born in the year of the dog are seen as honest, loyal, and reliable.
The reverse of the coin was designed by Wuon-Gean Ho, and features an image of a frolicking terrier, one of the most-beloved dog breeds, along with the Chinese character for dog.
The obverse of the coin features an image of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark.
The fifth coin in the Royal Mint’s Lunar series, these 2018 Year of the Dog coins are no longer in production. Supplies are extremely limited, so this could be your last chance to add this desirable coin to your precious metals investment portfolio.
